Rashika Nath - Voicebox Media / Multnomah Youth Commission

This was the first year that the Regional Innovation Forum happened. It was new for everyone including myself. Before the forum I didn't really know our planet needed sustainability action plans immediately. I am apart of Voice Box Media, so I took part in developing and running the climate change track. This was rather difficult because the youth who were involved in planning this track
including myself, were not familiar with the issues of climate change.

Time wasn't in our favor in partnering to plan the forum. We had to work really hard and use all of our efforts to pull this sustainability forum together. VBM's task was to outreach to youth to attend the forum so they could get better educated to start a chain conversation about climate change and what we can do to help. So first off we knew we needed to educate ourselves about the issues of climate change and why it needed to be addressed so quickly. After intensive research we went to different schools and events, and asked everyone we knew to attend. This was only possible from the creative members of VBM to come up with different strategies on how to approach youth in the most effective way.

Other tasks VBM did included making nearly fifty signs for the event. We also had to come with a topic ourselves to present on hot to stop climate change from happening during the climate change track. Doing all of this took VBM members and RIF members to work together and constantly ask questions so we were all on the same page. As youth we wanted to make sure that other youth could easily relate and plug in with no confusion. RIF members were glad to see our efforts in creating a youth-friendly atmosphere.
